The Charge of the Mild Brigade (a poem)
1.
Half hearted, half hearted,
Half hearted onward,
Into the valley of Comity
Rode ethos of the GOP,
"Forward, the Mild Brigade!
"To my friend across the Aisle" they said:
Into the valley of Comity
Rode ethos of the GOP
2.
"Forward, the Mild Brigade!"
Though our voters are dismayed
Not now to make ado
The media it has thundered
Ours is not to make reply,
Ours is not to champion why,
Ours is but to be nice guys:
Into the valley of Comity
Rode ethos of the GOP
3.
Press Corps to right of them,
Talk Shows to left of them,
Bi-partisanship in front of them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with scorn and shill,
Cringing they tip toed on egg shell,
Into the jaws of Beltway Swell,
Into Golly Gee Oh Well
Rode Ethos of the GOP
4.
Whilst the young with sabre bare,
Leave their families to despair,
Fight for freedom over there,
Risking life and limb, while
Their wife and child wonder:
Plunge into the IED-smoke
Right thro' the line they broke;
Jihad and Terror
Reel from their sabre stroke
Dead or crippled though they may be
They risk all for you and me
Not worried much for Comity.
5.
Press Corps to right of them,
Talk shows to left of them,
Bi-partisanship upon them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with scorn and shill,
While Marines and Soldiers fell,
The GOP tucked tail well
Bowed to jaws of Beltway Swell
Assented Golly Gee Oh Well,
All that was left of them,
Left freedom unguarded
6.
When did their courage fade?
What o what makes them afraid?
All their voters wondered.
Honoring no promise made,
Soft on enemies instead,
Comity their blunder
