Seems to Me I've Heard That Song Before . . .

Left hand fingers on the Bible and your right hand in the air ~

You're trying hard for humble, but you're sweating when you swear.

Will you defend the Constitution? Oh, you will?  Oh, yessiree!

You only ran to serve the people, and to keep the people free.

That's nice, but ain't it funny that somebody heard you say

That the salary's not much money, so you'll have to raise your pay?

And did I see your jobless brother in the van with several more

Who've been promised big positions when you're managing the store?

Your second wife's been shopping as if shopping were her hobby,

But dressing is essential when she undertakes a lobby.

Your boy, I ought to mention, has improved his situation

And he is on the scene because you got him on probation.

So go and serve, new man in town, live high ‘til we retire you ~

You've made it through Election Day and we can't ever fire you.

You must have known what we know now and, knowing, you've been clever:

That once you're there, you're there to stay ~ incumbency's forever.
