San Francisco to fine $100 for food scraps tossed out
AP reports that the ultra-enlightened city of San Francisco is about to impose $100 fines on residents who simply toss out food scraps, instead of placing them in a special container for composting. Miscreants will be let off with a warning at first, but in 2010, the food police will start fining folks.
I do hope the new compost containers are rat-proof. This kind of requirement could cause the vermin population to explode if adequate containers are not provided and properly used.
The initiative brings to mind a classic bit from a Penn & Teller television program whose very name is offensive to some people. If you are easily offended by vulgarisms, please do not watch the following video. However, if scatological expressions do not bother you, perhaps you will find it as amusing as I did.
