'Right wing extremist' report withdrawn
File this one under "closing the barn door after the horse escaped."
The Department of Homeland Security is wiithdrawing the notorious report that branded our returning veterans as possible terrorist recruits and hinted that immigration and abortion activists were likely terrorists.
The Washington Times' Audrey Hudson has the story of DHS incompetence:
"The wheels came off the wagon because the vetting process was not followed," Ms. Napolitano told the House Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday."The report is no longer out there," she said. "An employee sent it out without authorization."The report was shared with state and local law enforcement officials nationwide via the department's internal Web site on April 7, angering Republican lawmakers and military veterans who said it unfairly stereotyped veterans.Ms. Napolitano did not say when the report was taken off the "intel Web site" and all Homeland Security Department Web sites, but she said it is in the process of being "replaced or redone in a much more useful and much more precise fashion."Rep. Christopher Carney, Pennsylvania Democrat, said that as a veteran he "took offense personally," and his constituents were offended by the report as well."It really hit home hard to me and in our district," Mr. Carney said. "It's not a good start when I go to town hall meetings and I hear people calling for your resignation."
The revelation by Napolitano underscores the question still being asked; just who is in charge at DHS?
Incompetent management in such an important department should be addressed immediately. And it may very well be if some of the reports coming out of the White House about potential Supreme Court nominees can be believed.
Apparently, Napolitano is one of the finalists to replace David Souter on the court. Obama might kill a few birds with one stone by naming a gay woman (she is widely believed to be a lesbian in the gay community) to the court while solving his incompetence problem at DHS by getting rid of Napolitano.
Where would she do less damage? I wouldn't want to live on the difference.
