Detroit city council member walks away from his mortgage
Personal irresponsibility triumphs once again in Detroit politics. Kwame Kenyatta, who charmingly sports the first name of one African Marxist dictator who ruined his nation's former prosperity (Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana) and the last name of another (Jomo Kenyatta of Kenya), just walked away from his four bedroom stately brick home (see a picture here) in one of Detroit's nicest remaining neighborhoods, allowing the bank to foreclose, and the neighborhood to struggle to avoid blight.
Apparently the councilman is saving some money for himself and his wife by living in a three bedroom, four bathroom condo. But his former neighbors will just have to struggle along, hoping their bastion of middle class values can remain so, despite a foreclosed home.
