Obama receives coveted Iran endorsement
Barack Obama today received the blessing from one of the more important nutcases i n the Iranian government.
Via Powerline:
Iranian parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said Wednesday that Iran would prefer Democrat Barack Obama in the White House next year. Larijani also dismissed any idea that the US would attack Iran.
We are leaning more in favor of Barack Obama because he is more flexible and rational, even though we know American policy will not change that much," Larijani said at a press conference during a visit to Bahrain.
Seriously, Larijani is actually a little more rational - not much - than most of the screwballs who run Iran these days. He's got it all over Ahmadinejad that's for sure. Larijani conducted the original "Big Three" negotiations over their nuke program in the early part of this decade famously declaring at one point that trading Iran's nuclear program for the incentives being offered by Great Britain, France, and Germany was like "exchanging a pearl for a candy bar." He is also extremely well connected via family ties to what seems like half the Iranian government - most importantly, he has a brother on the powerful Guardian Council and is blood relative to a couple of extremely influential ayatollahs.
He also hates Ahmadinejad which is a big plus in his favor.
No doubt his statement reflects the thinking of most of the government. And why wouldn't they? They are about to get a great big gift dumped in their laps by the American electorate if we elect Obama and they know it.
