Good news: Police prepare for unrest on election night
I think some people are going to riot even if Obama wins.
After all, they're basing the decision to deploy additional police on what happens after a team wins a sports championship. So even if Obama were to win, I think the chances are pretty good that some kooks will take that as a signal that they can torch cars, burn buildings, and cause a lot of mahem.
All in good fun, of course:
Public safety officials said in interviews with The Hill that the election, which will end with either the nation's first black president or its first female vice president, demanded a stronger police presence.
Right. Can't you see all those Sarah Palin supporters streaming into the streets, overturning police cars and going crazy because the GOP lost?
Give me a break:
Some worry that if Barack Obama loses and there is suspicion of foul play in the election, violence could ensue in cities with large black populations. Others based the need for enhanced patrols on past riots in urban areas (following professional sports events) and also on Internet rumors.
Democratic strategists and advocates for black voters say they understand officers wanting to keep the peace, but caution that excessive police presence could intimidate voters.
Sen. Obama (Ill.), the Democratic nominee for president, has seen his lead over rival Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) grow in recent weeks, prompting speculation that there could be a violent backlash if he loses unexpectedly.
Cities that have suffered unrest before, such as Detroit, Chicago, Oakland and Philadelphia, will have extra police deployed.
This would seem to be the final piece of intimidation - the ultimate race card weapon deployed by the racialists and black bigots in order to scare people into voting for Obama. What's the difference between these people and al-Qaeda? Not much. They both would use violence to get their way.
Yes - but don't forget that it's the GOP who are the real haters in this race - angry mobs of hockey moms with hockey sticks who would roam the streets attacking Obama supporters.
Democracy in action...
