To Pray ... or Not to Pray

Next to the far-left protestors' stage (located conveniently in front of the state capitol in St. Paul) is an anti-war memorial. Pairs of boots have been carefully arranged on the grass. Each of the pair of boots represents a brave soldier who has been recently killed in action.

It is a touching scene. Some family members of the soldiers are there to remember their fallen sons and daughters.

This morning I saw some family members praying and placing flowers at the pair of boots that represents their lost loved one. It was clearly a difficult and emotional moment for the family.

But parked on the street, right next to this memorial was this:

It was, to say the least, disconcerting. I wondered, as I watched the grieving family, about the limits of the power of prayer.
