So Whose Houses Count Anyway?
Remember the dust-up before the conventions about how many houses the McCain family owned and how the old big media played that up, but then quickly backed away when the McCain campaign started bringing up Obama’s sweet Chicago real estate deals with Rezko?
Now there’s the story about how Obama’s billionaire backer, Oprah, won’t have Governor Sarah Palin on her show because Oprah doesn’t want to delve into partisan politics. That’s like Hugh Hefner not sponsoring a swim suit competition because he doesn’t want to delve into women’s issues.
Meanwhile, Obama is happy for Oprah’s support – despite that fact that she owns seven, or is it eight, houses – so who’s counting. This from wikipedia:
Here a house, there a house, everywhere a house house.Winfrey currently lives on “The Promised Land”, her 42-acre estate with ocean and mountain views in Montecito, California outside of Santa Barbara. Winfrey also owns a house in Lavallette, New Jersey, an apartment in Chicago, an estate on Fisher Island off the coast of Miami, a ski house in Telluride, Colorado, and property on the island of Maui, Hawaii. She also owns a home on the island of Antigua. Winfrey's show is based in Chicago, so she spends time there, specifically in the neighborhood of Streeterville, but she otherwise resides in California. Her Hawaii property was featured on the cover of O at Home and on her TV show. Winfrey also owns a home in the exclusive town of Avalon, New Jersey.
One of Oprah’s quotations is that:
“We are each responsible for our own life -- no other person is or even can be.”
So you gotta wonder then -- how come she’s a major sponsor of a presidential candidate who thinks the federal government is responsible for all of our lives? Is it the Chicago connection?
Mighty puzzling stuff.
