New Effort To Bag Osama Bin Laden
There appears to be a new effort underway to capture or kill Osama Bin Laden. With the help of British special forces and the cooperation of the Pakistani government, coalition forces are moving through some of the most inhospitable terrain on planet earth in hopes of cornering him:
The Special Boat Service (SBS) and the Special Reconnaissance Regiment have been taking part in the US-led operations to capture Bin Laden in the wild frontier region of northern Pakistan. It is the first time they have operated across the Afghan border on a regular basis. The hunt was "completely sanctioned" by the Pakistani government, according to a UK special forces source. It involves the use of Predator and Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles fitted with Hellfire missiles that can be used to take out specific terrorist targets. ...A Pentagon source said US forces were rolling up Al-Qaeda's network in Pakistan in the hope of pushing Bin Laden towards the Afghan border, where the US military and bombers with guided missiles were lying in wait. "They are prepping for a major battle," he said.
I have to laugh every time some idiot lefty whines about not getting Osama. Can they really be that ignorant? If the guy is ensconced in Pakistan and we sent forces in to try and capture him, who would be the first to scream about the US violating Pakistani sovereignty? It must be nice to be in a position of no matter what the Bush Administration does, they can skewer him for it.
Not this time, Now we have the green light from the Pakistani government and, using what appears to be enhanced intelligence, we may have an inkling of where Osama is hiding. The area of operations is, simply put, the worst imaginable. Not only is it mountainous and honeycombed with caves and tiny villages where Osama would be welcomed and sheltered, but Osama's network can give him plenty of warning that trouble is approaching. Even with enhanced intelligence and permission to go into Pakistan after him, we are likely to fail in our efforts to capture or kill him.
Word is that Bush wants Osama caught or killed before he leaves office. That may be a tall order given the obstacles our guys will have to overcome.
