Jimmy Carter wants trade relations with Iran
The former president is in a hole and can't stop digging. Joy Lo Dico of the UK Independent reports:
The former US president Jimmy Carter has called for his country to resume trade relations with Iran, which he described as a "rational" nation. Speaking at the Hay Festival yesterday, Mr Carter also suggested the US should provide nuclear power technology and fuel to Iran as a show of goodwill."What happens if, in three years time, Iran has a nuclear weapon," Mr Carter asked. "I'm not sure that is going to happen, but if it does, what do we do? They are rational people like all of us in this room. Do they want to commit suicide? I would guess not. So what we have to do is talk with them now and say to them we want to be their friends. The United States must let Iran know that we want to give them fuel and everything they need for a non-military nuclear programme. Twenty-five years ago we cut off trading with Iran. We've got to resume trading to show Iran we are friends." [bolding added]
Has Jimmy Carter remained unaware of the 12th Mahdi all these years? Has he not heard tell of the Iranian leadership's willingness to endure millions of Muslim casualties if it results in eradicating Israel?
That a man as deluded as this was ever president is frightening. He sounds like Neville Chamberlain here reassuring the world that Hitler was a man with whom to negotiate.
The question of the hour is: Does Barack Obama share these views? Will anyone in the press ask him if he agrees with Carter that the Iranians are rational, and that we should open trade relations? If not, on what basis does he disagree? Would trade relations be off the table in the first Obama-Ahmedinejad summit? He has said no preconditions, so it might be on the table for all we know.
