Too little, too late

He finally did it, he threw his pastor under the bus. Fox News reports:

Barack Obama, declaring "that's enough," denounced Tuesday as "appalling" and "ridiculous" comments made in the last few days by his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr.

"I am outraged by the comments that were made, and saddened over the spectacle that we saw yesterday," Obama said.

"The person I saw yesterday was not the person that I met 20 years ago. His comments were not only divisive and destructive, but I believe they ended up giving comfort to those who prey on hate," he said.

In 2006 Obama told Chris Wallace he would appear on FOX News Sunday, as time went by Chris started keeping track of how many days had passed since Obama made his promise. After 772 days he finally appeared on the show.

Just for fun let's see how many days it took him to disown his radical preacher. He went to Trinity United Church for 20 years. No one knows how much time passed before he heard one of those fiery sermons, let's be generous and say it was two years. That's a possible 100 sermons, that leaves 18 years (and a possible 900 sermons) times 365 days. That's 6,574 days (counting leap years) before he finally realized he should disassociate himself from Reverend Wright.

If a crisis happens while Obama is in the White House I hope he doesn't take that long to make a decision.

Ed Lasky adds:

Note how Obama elides the last 20 years. Was he the same Wright from 2 yeas ago, 4 years ago?  Instead, Obama just says Wright is not the man I met 20 years ago. This is all but meaningless. If Wright developed and prnounced his wacky views 15 years ago, does that get Obama off by his own very low bar?

In any case, even 20 years ago, Wright made his views known to Obama
