Rep. Stark's Unhinged Rants

Leave it to Pete Stark to lower the level of debate in the House to the gutter:

Re: The SCHIP debate:

"Where are you going to get that money? Are you going to tell us lies like you're telling us today? Is that how you're going to fund the war? You don't have money to fund the war or children. But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old, enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president's amusement," Stark said.

"President Bush's statements about children's health shouldn't be taken any more seriously than his lies about the war in Iraq. The truth is that Bush just likes to blow things up in Iraq, in the United States, and in Congress. I urge my colleagues to vote to override his veto," he continued.
House rules prohibit members from disrespecting each other or the President. I guess ol' Pete must have been asleep when they explained that to the rest of the House.

This is not the first time Stark's mouth has moved faster than his brain. He once referred to a female colleague as a "whore" and speculated that another female colleague learned everything she knows about health care from "pillow talk" with her physician husband.

A real class act.

Republicans tried to get the offending remarks stricken from the record - to no avail, of course. Most on the left see nothing wrong with such rhetoric since it represents "speaking truth to power." Many
liberal websites this morning are congratulating Mr. Stark for his wit and intelligence.

So much for outmoded concepts like common decency and decorum in the House.
