Making Jena notorious
Jena, LA is taking its place among towns notorious for racial polarization. In the context of America's vibrant race industry, there has been no shortage of prominent actors anxious to exploit the situation for their own ends.
Jason Whitlock, whose previous work at the Kansas City Star has demonstrated extraordinary levelheadedness on the subject of race, has looked into the background in Jena, and has come to some fairly interesting conclusions. The situation is complicated and there are plenty of problems on all sides. But if you want to get a better understanding of what really is going on, then read this article.
