Larry Craig: The" Bad Penny" Senator
The nightmare for Republicans continues:
BOISE, Idaho - Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, said Sunday that he defied calls for his resignation after he pleaded guilty in an airport restroom sex sting because that would be “the easy way out” and “I don’t just walk away from a fight.”Just about everyone wants Craig to resign his Senate seat - except gleeful Democrats who are licking their chops at the prospect of holding the Idaho Senator up as an example of Republican corruption. Craig is like a bad penny; he just keeps turning up no matter how hard you try to get rid of him.
In an interview with Matt Lauer, anchor of NBC’s TODAY morning program, Craig bitterly criticized Republican presidential Mitt Romney, for whom he had worked as a liaison to the Senate, for abandoning him in his hour of need.
After Craig’s arrest in a men’s restroom at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was reported in August, Romney issued a statement saying Craig had stepped down from his campaign, but Craig made it clear that the choice was not his.
And his stated reason for staying in office - that he wishes to "clear his name" in the ethics investigation underway in the Senate - is a monumentally stupid move. With Democrats in control, you can bet that there will be other revelations regarding Craig's curious public restroom habits such as those reported by the Idaho Statesman not to mention anything else they may be able to dig up. No one seems to be able to talk any sense to Craig.
He is even contemplating breaking his promise to retire in 2008 and run for another 6 year term.
By then it will be too late as the Democrats will make sure he is seen as a poster boy for GOP hypocrisy and corruption.
