Minimal Damage (a poem)

I was watching on television, with justifiable pride,

Gen. Patraeus with Ambassador Crocker at his side.

Two men of distinction, two fighters for peace.

When up pops a Congressman who wouldn't cease

His embarrassing rant.  A nobody from nowhere

Seeking to disparage this illustrious pair.

He was followed by others of similar intent.

Sniping men and women obviously hellbent

On shredding the gutsy, courageous two,

Whose shadows overpowered these minimal few.

That we are represented by power-mad loonies like these

Is a disgrace to the nation.  Pay them no attention, please!
