From the website that gave us the liberal rallying cry of the Iraq War comes a post so defamatory, so outrageous in its overgeneralization and calumnious inferences regarding the United States military that the proprietor of the site took the offending article down lest the world see the true nature of the left's utter contempt and hatred for those in service to America.
This article originally appeared on the DailyKos website - owned and operated by Markos Moulitsas Zúniga. whose written epithet to American contractors murdered, dragged through the streets of Fallujah and hung in effigy was "Screw 'em - has since been removed. After all, it just wouldn't do to have this "mainstream Democratic website" basically call our soldiers "mass murderers and rapists:"
According to Kilner, the United States military is doing absolutely nothing to help soldiers deal with the psychological effects of the murderous training. They merely pat them on the back, thank them for a job well done, and pull up the next impressionable young man or woman and stick them in the meat grinder.Even the extended excerpt above does not do justice to the numerous wild exaggerations, stereotyping, and just plain ignorance exhibited by the author toward the military. It is almost beyond belief - except it is pretty much what we've come to expect from the left in their attitudes toward the Armed Forces since the Viet Nam War.
To deal with the problem, Kilner suggests justification "because, at least some killing in war is morally justifiable, military leaders have a duty to understand that justification, to train their soldiers to kill only when it is justified, and to explain to their soldiers why it is justified." In other words, if you give a soldier a supposedly legitimate reason to kill another human being, such as self-defense, it may be easier for the soldier to cope with the outcome of his actions.
That seems a bit simplistic, especially when soldiers are firing randomly at civilians because they believe everyone in Iraq is a "terrorist." Unfortunately, killing, whether justifable or not, is going to warp the killer's mind in some fashion, and probably to an unrecoverable point.
America should start to see the effects of the Iraq war veterans' killing sprees here in the United States very soon. Most serial killers tend to be in their mid 20s to mid 30s.
The newest crop of Charles Whitmans and Jeffrey Dahmers should be prowling our streets any day now -- and for many years to come.
Of late, this utter contempt and loathing has surfaced in the form of "humor" (John Kerry's insulting insinuation that only the uneducated are stupid enough to serve) or in the way that every supposed massacre, every single incident of torture and war crime - true or not - is jumped on by the left and given gleeful, even loving attention without regard to the facts. In short, the left is more likely to believe the stories told by terrorists and their mouthpieces than they are the United States military.
What makes this article so significant is that just recently, Jet Blue was forced to withdraw its public sponsorship of the DailyKos Convention after complaints on the right that the website was a "hate" site. Kos and many on the left shot back that they were no such thing, that they were in the mainstream of the Democratic party. To prove it, they pointed with pride to the fact that every major Democratic presidential candidate had agreed to appear before conventiongoers.
If so, this is what those candidates will be legitimizing with their presence:
According to the July 30, 2007 issue of The Nation magazine, damning photos of a U.S. Soldier using a spoon to literally scoop out the brains of a dead Iraqi and pretending to eat the gray matter were recently acquired.I suppose someone who could dismiss the death of Americans in Iraq by saying "Screw 'em" wouldn't find the above article necessarily out of bounds. But it was pulled from the Kos site after a few hours probably so that it wouldn't offend the sensibilities of those "mainstream Democrats" who may possibly agree with the sentiments expressed in the article but are desperate to keep that fact from the American voter.
Of course, everyone is appropriately appalled and make all claims of disgust and finger-wagging. Research shows, however, that such unacceptable behavior happens more often than the United States military wants you to know. When it comes to training killing machines, the military really does create "an Army of one."
The list of serial killers and mass murderers who have spent time in the military is astounding.
Yes, there are those that genuinely hate the war and support the troops. Some may disagree but there is a rough kind of logic to that position. The problem for the left is that most of them only pay lip service to the notion of supporting the troops while in actuality, they hold them in complete and utter contempt.
Shades of Viet Nam, indeed.
