Pressing on
In a short press release dated May 15, the U.S. Embassy in Iraq announced the creation of the Iraq Transition Assistance Office by an Executive Order signed by the President on May 9. This Office replaces the Iraq Reconstruction Management Office.
Reading between the lines, the Administration has junked the so far inadeqate efforts at civilian reconstruction that we have been doing and is trying to supercharge this function with a new organization and new personnel. This can very likely be seen as a complement to the appointment of General Lute to be Assistant to the President for coordinating our war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
So, Bush is not gving up. We are pressing on!
