Jimmy Carter misses the obvious - again.

J.R. Dunn has written a thoughtful article on Rachel Carson, DDT and malaria. But aren't we all a little bit afraid that Jimmy Carter has just announced that his number one goal now is eliminating malaria?

It hardly seems necessary for him to be involved when the answer has been staring all of us in the face for years. As Dunn points out, using DDT does the trick, and harmful environmental consequences are hard to find.

But Carter is going to work hard to see that Carson's legacy isn't tarnished.  Here is an article from the Smithsonian, in which DDT is not mentioned.

Like so many similar situations, it looks as though Carter's efforts superficially are to the good, but  when viewed in light of the other options, the effort seems misguided, at best.
