Now Hillary's a hawk? (updated)

Speaking in front of a Jewish group, Hillary is now threatening Iran, according to the Jerusalem Post:

Democratic presidential candidate and New York Senator Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that it might be necessary for America to confront Iran militarily, addressing that possibility more directly than any of the other presidential candidates who spoke this week to the National Jewish Democratic Council.

Clinton first said that the US should be engaging directly with Iran to foil any effort to gain nuclear weapons and faulted the Bush administration for "considerably narrowing" the options available to America in countering Iran.

Still, she said, all avenues should be explored, since "if we do have to take offensive military action against Iran, it would be far better if the rest of the world saw it as a position of last resort, not first resort, because the effect and consequences will be global."

Other candidates who addressed the NJDC only went as far as saying that "no option should be taken off the table"
I suspect MoveOn.org and others will soon be holding her feet to the fire.

(Jack Kemp is not the politician of the same name.)

Update: Hillary nods to the left with by publishing a blog post on Jane Hamsher's Firedoglake.com website. According Mary Ann Akers blogging at the The Sleuth at Washingtonpost.com, eyebrows are being raised because of Hamsher's notorious parody of Joe Lieberman in blackface when she worked for the Ned Lamont campaign.

I particularly savor Aker's description of Firedoglake.com as "the smart, edgy and saucy progressive blog run by women..." I certainly hope she uses such a favorable perspective when writing about comparably conservative websites, say, Little Green Footballs.

Hillary is playing to different crowds in different media, and is betting that she can get away with being all things to all people.
