DC Emancipation Day

Today, the nation's capital celebrates "Emancipation Day" -- commemorating the Republican Party's abolition of slavery in the District of Columbia, on April 16, 1862.  That's right, the Republican Party freed the slaves in DC, despite fierce opposition from the Democrats.  Click here for the rest of the article on the Grand Old Partisan blog
