Report from the Iraq front
General Petraeus has assembled a team of "mavericks" (as they have been characterized by the Washington Post's excellent military reporter Thomas Ricks) to advise him. His top counter-terrorism advisor is an Australian Colonel, David KilCullen.
Col. Kilcullen has just (March 24) posted some observations on his first weeks in Baghdad and how the war is going on Small Wars Journal. Very interesting reading - and it doesn't come from much closer to the furnace than this.
