The Invisible Race

By

Rahm Emanuel, Congressman from Illinois 5th Congressional District is reportedly overworked and underfed (now 14 pounds gone off an already lean frame). As Chair of the DCCC, he has been running around the country for a year, recruiting candidates, raising money, and developing campaign messages and ads for candidates in other districts.

Rahm is intensely focused on the competitive races around the country, and if Democrats take the House, will get a lot of the credit and probably demand some of the spoils of power. Lack of ambition is not an Emanuel family trait.

Rahm has spent  little or no time campaigning in his own district. He appears to assume the district will re—elect him on name recognition alone and the Democratic Party's large registration advantage, even without a campaign effort. As it turns out, Rahm has an opponent, Kevin White, who with limited resources, has attempted to get the media to pay some attention to Rahm's own race. White recently appeared on an interview on Chicago Public Radio on October 23 on the 848 program.

Kevin is a solid, thoughtful candidate, and deserves more of a hearing.
