Morgan at  Flares Into Darkness has done an excellent job of dissecting the Lancet study which makes fantastic claims 650,000 additional deaths by violence in Iraq. The authors of the Lancet study make a political statement while cloaking the study in pseudo scientific methodology, and Morgan clarifies the manner in which they selected the garbage to put in in order to achieve the garbage they put out.
 
It's a good read and provides the means to make a clear rebuttal to those who would wrap politics in "science".
