Mad and dangerous
In a speech yesterday, Gordon Brown — the man most likely to succeed Tony Blair as Prime Minister — stated his commitment to renewing Britain's nuclear arsenal when the current Trident system comes to the end of its operational life in 2024. Brown's position, however, was met with anger and indignation in some quarters of the Labour Party. According to the UK Guardian:
Mr Brown's move will upset many on the Labour left, and may add to the moves within the party to put a candidate up against him if there are elections either this year or next for the leadership.
So at the time when countries such as North Korea and Iran are about to acquire nuclear weapons some leftwing members of the ruling party would like Britain to throw away her own.
Kate Hudson, chairwoman of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, even went so far as to say:
When we face no nuclear threat, to decide on a new Trident replacement is beginning a new nuclear arms race.
Contravening all common sense and denying the obvious, the left continually offers evidence of how mad and dangerous they really are.
