The bright red package carries the cover line 'The War on Conception' which is being waged by conservatives who 'are fighting quietly but forcefully to make a number of forms of birth control harder and harder to obtain. Everywhere.'

The article inside is cleverly titled 'Contra—Conception: Is this the beginning of the next culture war?'

Conservatives, it explains, 'see birth control as part of an ailing culture that overemphasizes sex and devalues human life.' Indeed, many Christians active in this arena want to alter 'the moral landscape of the country,' Shorto relates. 'In particular...they want to change the way Americans have sex.'
