Sometimes budget shortfalls aren't all bad
First the Chicago skyway (a tollway) was sold to a private group; now our free spending governor is contemplating selling the Illinois Lottery to raise funds. The only good side of wasteful goverment spending is that it eventually catches up with reality. As government is forced to raise funds to meet an ever—expanding budget by selling off bits and pieces of its imperium, fewer areas of our life will be affected by a wasteful, incompetent and oblivious government.
At the same time, this government de—accessioning will leave fewer slots to be filled with patronage people and union members under the control of the activist and politically powerful Service Employees International Union.
