I am a liberal (a poem)

By

Under the covers I long to be.

It's under the covers where I'll be free

To turn the dark nighttime into day

And dream the cares of the world away.

All is sweet and lovely, everything is serene.

All is fresh and kind and beautifully clean.

Nobody ever means me harm.

All I have to do is disarm

Them all with my understanding and care.

An equal compassion is sure to be there.

When I wave my white flag of surrender they'll see

A bright blazing light and congratulate me

On the wisdom of yielding my family's life

To relieve us of any further strife

Which would likely have occurred if I

Had sounded a bellowing battle cry

And stood between all that I hold dear

And the hell of the enemy's coming near

To destroying what civilization has built.

I'm far too ridden with senseless guilt

To stand by my family, my country, my God.

No, into sweet slumber I'd rather nod.
