Hamas op-ed in LA Times
If this op—ed is the best that the spin—meisters from Hamas can produce... they have a lot to learn. Such crudeness is surprising since the op—ed boasts in its first sentence that the Palestinians are among the most educated people in the world.
IT IS WIDELY recognized that the Palestinians are among the most politicized and educated people in the world.
But it gets to the basics by the end:
We shall never recognize... a Zionist state on our soil
We shall never recognize the right of any power to rob us of our land and deny us our national rights. We shall never recognize the legitimacy of a Zionist state created on our soil in order to atone for somebody else's sins or solve somebody else's problem.
Some offer of peace....
The Palestinians are among the most "educated" people in the world. Yep, the Palestinian educational establishment that teaches children how to hate and very little else... is top—drawer. Everyone recognizes that level of quality.
We are being punished simply for resisting oppression and striving for justice. Those who threaten to impose sanctions on our people are the same powers that initiated our suffering and continue to support our oppressors almost unconditionally. We are being penalized while our oppressors are pampered. The U.S. and the EU could have used the success of Hamas to open a new chapter and to understand better a movement that has so far been seen largely through the eyes of the Zionist occupiers of our land.
Hmm...all one has to do is witness the calls for the destruction of Israel, the words in the Hamas Charter, the promises to impose Sharia law...etc. We don't need to look through the "eyes of the Zionist occupiers" of the land for that evaluation.
First, he calls on Europeans and American to give aid to their genocidal program and then tries to "shame" other Arab nations to do so.
Our message to the Muslim and Arab nations is this: You have a responsibility to stand by your Palestinian brothers and sisters whose sacrifices are made on behalf of all of you. Our people in Palestine should not need to wait for any aid from countries that attach humiliating conditions to every dollar or euro they pay despite their historical and moral responsibility for our plight. We expect you to step in and compensate the Palestinian people for any loss of aid, and we demand you lift all restrictions on civil society institutions that wish to fundraise for our cause.
What sacrifices are being made by Palestinians for the sake of other Arabs? He must view attacks on Israel as benefiting the entire Arab world — thus making clear that they intend to destroy Israel to redeem the honor for all Arabs. Saladin would be very proud.
Our conflict with you is not religious but political. We have no problem with Jews who have not attacked us — our problem is with those who came to our land, imposed themselves on us by force, destroyed our society and banished our people.
And again, following the PR playbook previously noted by no less than the Guardian, he states that attacks against Israel are not motivated by anti—Semitism and that Hamas has no problems with Judaism. He makes a point of separating Israelis from Jews and proclaiming that Jews have lived in the Muslim world for 13 centuries in "peace and harmony".
Hmm... what about repeated massacres, third—class citizenship by virtue of dhimmitude, and the expulsion and impoverishment of 600,000 Jews after the founding of the state of Israel, the public hangings of Jews in modern day "auto de fes", and other assorted painful actions that have nothing to do with "peace and harmony". Why is the Arab world the world center of anti—Semitism?
