Able Danger redux
LTC Anthony Schaffer, who was previously blocked from testifying publicly, will do so today at 2:30 Eastern Time this afternoon before the Strategic Forces Subcommittee. C—SPAN will carry it live.
To refresh memories, Able Danger was established in 1999 at the request of Joint Chiefs Chairman, Gen. Hugh Shelton & was under the direct supervision of then CO, Special Operations Command, Gen. Pete Schoomaker. Able Danger's personnel became adept at data mining & identified Mohammed Atta as an Al Qaeda operative in the US a year before 9/11. Former FBI director Louis Freeh has stated that if the Bureau had known this they could probably have prevented the 9/11 attacks. The 9/11 commission basically ignored Able Danger. (See his 17 Nov. 2005 op—ed here). For an informative interview with LTC Schaffer go here.
