Mexico: "Su casa es mi casa"
"Your house is my house," Mexico is telling the US. In a story in the left—wing UK Guardian,
"The Mexican government, angered by a U.S. proposal to extend a wall along the border to keep out migrants, pledged Tuesday to block the plan and organize an international campaign against it."?
This is one dumb move. Somebody might remind Vicente Fox that "Su casa es mi casa" is a slogan for burglars. If Fox were smart, he would lobby President Bush to increase legal migration to the United States. If he were really smart, he would offer to help the US develop a guest worker program.?
Instead, El Presidente is whipping up anti—American fervor in Mexico and abroad.
Item: The Mexican Foreign Minister,Luis Ernesto Derbez, announced that "Mexico is not going to bear, it is not going to permit, and it will not allow a stupid thing like this wall.''
You see, "Su casa es mi casa" Americans don't have a right to keep illegal entrants out of their house.?
Item: Mexico " has taken out ads urging Mexican workers to denounce rights violations in the United States. "
This is a new kind of ambulance chasing. Mexican illegal immigrants are being urged to call the nearest lawyer if they sniff a taint of discrimination. Watch for the ACLU and the liberal churches to jump on this bandwagon, to hang a ball and chain on American efforts to protect the border.?
Item: International pressure. "What has to be done is to raise a storm of criticism, as is already happening, against this,'' Derbez said, promising to turn the international community against the plan.Item: The border fence will be called the new Berlin Wall.
Mr. Fox doesn't seem to understand the difference between a prison wall and a fence to protect one's home.?
Prediction: We will end up with a partly successful border fence in the next few years. The ACLU and the Fox government will try everything possible to destroy it. We will also end up with a guest worker program, and a delayed amnesty for Mexicans in the US, because the US media will show pictures of Mexican families being sent home, and the public heart will melt. Americans can't tolerate the suffering of others.
Meanwhile, the Fox government will keep being stupid and irrational, thereby postponing a sensible solution that would serve Mexico as well as the US. Americans are beginning to notice which countries are our friends ——— and which are not. Judging by its words and deeds, Mexico is not
