Chinese reform activist beaten

By

The BBC, Washington Times, and the Guardian are all reporting that Lu Banglie, a Chinese activist seeking the ouster of an allegedly corrupt mayor in Guangdong Province (just north of Hong Kong, in the rich Pearl River Delta), was dragged from a car and beaten by a mob as he tried to enter the village of Taishi, where the mayor holds office.

Not a good sign for those who hope to see China reform itself.
