Who is Richard Clarke?

By

The Democrats' counter—offensive to Bush's good two weeks kicks off tonight with an appearance by Richard Clarke on Sixty Minutes. Clarke is the former national security official who claims that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld wanted to bomb Iraq in response to 9/11, despite being told that Iraq 'had nothing to do with it.' Clarke is set to testify before the 9/11 inquiry on this matter later this week.

Our pal Alex Frasca did some Googling on Clarke and came up with a very interesting article debunking him, dating from 2002, on a site unfamiliar to us, Securityfocus.com.

We can't particularly vouch for the site or the information in the article. However, it doesn't present Clarke in a very favorable light. If what it says is true, he certainly has reason to be angry at his former superiors.

It is worth a look.
