Who cares?

By

You read here recently about the sad situation in Guyana as heavy rains and floods devastate the country. Ms. Mora y Leon hoped that once again the U.S. would help.

But of course.  Without fanfare, without prodding, George Bush, in the midst of inaugural festivities, plus other government agencies, kept their focus and sent some vital aid.

Will our country be the only one?  What about the stingy U.N.?  Guyana is a former British colony; do the Brits still care? And how about the other wealthy nations, including most of the European Union?  Will the wealthy Muslim nations contribute to a non—Muslim one?  Will Venezuela be helpful or an impediment?

The answers to these questions will reveal much about the others——and ourselves.
