US acts unilaterally again
Once again, the United States acted unilaterally in the international sphere as it sent Vice President Dick Cheney to attend commemorative services at the site of the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp.
Although England's Queen Elizabeth and Prime Minister did attend a separate ceremony at London's Westminster Hall, only twenty—nine nations were represented by the leaders at the Auschwitz site, according to the UK's Guardian newspaper —— a number noticeably short of the number of nations who joined with the US in its "unilateral" action against the r馮ime of Saddam Hussein.
Twenty—nine countries represent a small faction of the globe's nation —— or even of the United Nation's 191 member states —— validating liberal charges that the US Vice President acted not only unilaterally, by their definition, but recklessly as well.
Some critics, particularly in the Arab world but also in some parts of Europe, accused the US of acting on false and misleading information, inasmuch as they maintain that the Holocaust never existed in the first place and was just a lie told by Jewish sympathizers in order to provide an excuse for the Auschwitz ceremonies.
