UN election observers
Members of the Congressional Black Caucus have requested that the United Nations send election observers to ensure fairness in our November elections. While they undoubtedly have in mind the fantasies of road blocks preventing Florida black voters from getting to the polls, when you think about it, maybe it isn't such a bad idea. Here are some places we'd suggest that they visit:
—Chicago, where the unofficial motto is 'Vote early and often.'
—St. Louis, where a rogue judge ordered the polls kept open longer than in the rest of the state of Missouri.
—Cleveland, where one precinct had more votes than registered voters.
—The entire state of California, where busloads of people speaking very little English pull up to polling places, and where it is illegal to ask for voters for identification.

UPDATE: Reader Howard Lee in Bogalusa, Louisiana adds a thought:
I wonder if Sen Mary Landrieu would want honest election (I mean honest——not UN) observers in New Orleans and Baton Rouge for her next election....
Q: Do you you know why people are buried above ground in New Orleans?
A: It makes it easer for them to get up and vote on election day.
ANOTHER UPDATE:
Ralph Nader has accused the Democrats of "dirty tricks" in keeping his name off the Arizona ballot. Since ballot access is an important part of fair elections, this is yet another item for the UN to cover.
