Trying too hard

By

Emily Berns has a wonderful essay today on the Weekly Standard Website  discussing the European reaction to Lance Armstrong's sixth win in the Tour de France bicycle competition. She uses the Movie Chariots of Fire as a point of comparison. In both the film and present day Europe, an attitude that striving too hard is uncouth is used to put down Jews (in the film), and more broadly (in the case of Armstrong), Americans.

Berns expresses herself eloquently, and reveals some of the underlying sources of the reason Euro—elites look down on Bush's America.
