The terror shadow from Venezuela
As we noted yesterday, Colombia has produced conclusive evidence that Venezuela's Marxist dictator Hugo Chavez is harboring savage terrorists in Caracas — the brutal leftist kind who have plagued Colombia with necklace bombs, schoolyard landmines, kidnappings, village massacres, disco attacks, voter murder and continuous assassination. And who are closely linked with the IRA, the ETA, Castro's Cuba and almost certainly al Qaida. They are among the most monstrously remorseless terrorists on earth.
Today, the estimable Mary Anastasia O'Grady of the Wall Street Journal editorial page lays out the case for why this Brutal Leftist Thug needs to be placed on Washington's list of state—terror sponsors as quickly as possible. Chavez is menacing the entire hemisphere and growing emboldened in his dangerous actions. In Colombia, they already know, as this chilling El Tiempo editorial translated by blogger Miguel Octavio shows. A powerful stance from Washington is critically needed, because make no mistake, this is another ugly shadow over the U.S. and its brave ally Colombia in the ongoing war on terror.
