The Face of Evil

By

North Korea has long stood as the most evil regime on the face of the earth. Bad as Saddam Hussein was, North Korea's people have suffered more, and its leadership has plumbed even greater depths of monstrous crime.

Its twisted political doctrine of juche ('self—reliance') was originally proclaimed by the late Kim Il—sung, the Moscow—trained and —installed dictator.  Juche justified almost total isolation from the outside world, leading to the utmost misfortune for North Korea's people. Deliberate atrocities by its government, as well as horrendous failures to provide the necessities of life,  have been hidden away from the prying eyes of outsiders, including any foreign press. Juche continues to be honored by the Dear Leader, Kim Jong—il, the world's first hereditary communist dictator, a degenerate voluptuary who indulges all sensual pleasures, as only an absolute dictator/demi—god can.

Nevertheless, horrific tales of mass starvation have spread worldwide, as wretched, starving Koreans have braved border guards and the elements to escape into China. Up to ten percent of the population has already expired from the slow, painful process of extreme hunger ending in death. This man—made famine is not due to the weather, but the internal collapse of a fatally corrupt and ideologically—driven economy, driven beyond logic or any sense of humanity to sacrifice its people on the altar of absolute political control.

Now, in the last year, even prison guards have escaped from North Korea, and they are bringing tales of unmitigated horror unimagined since the heyday of the Nazis. Occasionally, evil so naked appears that it takes the breath away from all but the most hardened humans. The sort of evil that parents wish to hide from their children, or relegate to a distant and unimaginable past, once again taunts the rest of humanity, almost begging us to drop whatever else we are doing, and bring an end to it.

The Guardian newspaper carries multiple accounts of:

...gas chambers where horrific chemical experiments are conducted on human beings....Witnesses have described watching entire families being put in glass chambers and gassed. They are left to an agonising death while scientists take notes.

A former military attaché in the North Korean Embassy in Beijing testifies,

'I witnessed a whole family being tested on suffocating gas and dying in the gas chamber,' he said. 'The parents, son and and a daughter. The parents were vomiting and dying, but till the very last moment they tried to save kids by doing mouth—to—mouth breathing.'

'At the time I felt that they thoroughly deserved such a death. Because all of us were led to believe that all the bad things that were happening to North Korea were their fault; that we were poor, divided and not making progress as a country.'

'It would be a total lie for me to say I feel sympathetic about the children dying such a painful death. Under the society and the regime I was in at the time, I only felt that they were the enemies. So I felt no sympathy or pity for them at all.'

If a person was even suspected of political dissidence, or of espousing Christianity (which Kim Jong—il considered a dire threat to his regime), three generations of the family would be imprisoned, tortured, and possibly killed, either for the sake of cruelty or some depraved notion of 'science.'

Kim Jong—il, attentive readers will remember, was the very dictator toasted by President Clinton's Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, when she visited North Korea on a State visit. The North Korean press dutifully portrayed her visit as a kind of tribute by the Americans, acknowledging the legitimacy and permanence of the Kim regime.

Every further day that this evil continues to exist, is a stain upon the rest of humanity, which does not rise and put a stop to it. National sovereignty is one thing. Utter depravity, which debases all mankind is quite another.

Enough!
