Taking his marbles home
France's President, Jacques Chirac, says there is no need for seeing Ariel Sharon because the Prime Minister of Israel asserted that French Jews were undergoing inordinate persecution and should move to Israel.
When we were children, we can recall a kid who would not let us play with the others because we did not play by the kid's rules. Chirac is acting childishly because Sharon did not play by Chirac's rules, daring to criticize France's inaction in protecting the Jewish community. Chirac does not realize that refusing to see Sharon sends an anti—Semitic message to the Muslims in France. The terrible actions of a few in the Muslim community have more weight than a Prime Minister's clear observation.
