Stupid Press Tricks (cont.)

The New York Times headlined today, "In Testimony to 9/11 Panel, Rice Sticks to the Script." That's an odd use of the term "script" in a headline, even for a news analysis of Rice's testimony.

Condeleeza Rice and Colin Powell have been characterized as "house slaves" by those in the black and liberal community who wish to denigrate them for participating in a Republican Administration. For instance, a book, "Black Power:Strategies for achieving and Utilizing power in America" has made this slur; more widely known is Harry Belafonte's characterizing them as "house slaves".

Now the New York Times seems to consider her a minstrel or a marionette under control of the whites in the White House giving her a script to follow. She is given little credit for any impromptu or self—directed behavior. Instead, the New York Times considers her a mere automaton, spewing out a script composed by her masters.
