Still the economy, stupid?
CBS Marketwatch has just issued a bulletin reporting that the consumer confidence index jumped in July, from 102.8 in June to 106.1 in July. This is a huge move, indicating that the public has become much more optimistic about the state of the economy.
Could this account for Bush's recent polling strength?
