Smart analysis
Walter Shapiro, one of the more sensible mainstream media commentators, has an excellent piece in yesterday's Los Angeles Times on the plight of the Democrats. It is smart and funny, too. The title, "Democrats Won't Win by Whining," tells you a lot. Excerpt:
South Carolina strategist Donnie Fowler, who briefly headed Wesley Clark's presidential campaign, tried to transcend the party's God gap when he boasted, "I am a Democrat because I am a Christian, not in spite of it." (Memo to Fowler: Don't repeat this line at a Barbra Streisand fundraiser).
It appears as if Shapiro has lost his job at USA Today. If true, this is a pity. He deserves a platform.
