Separation anxiety
During the debate over the "nuclear option" regarding changing Senate rules so as to prohibit the filibuster of judicial nominees, our favorite Democratic Senators were invoking the "separation of powers" doctrine in support of continuing the practice. Never mind that separation of powers has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with internal Senate rules. But that was their claim.
Now comes a group of female Democratic Senators who are insisting that Supreme Court nominees "vow" to uphold Roe v. Wade. Hmmm? This sounds suspiciously like a separation of powers issue to me. Aren't the Senators trying to tell the courts what to do? Once again, we have proof positive that the principles of the Democratic party are in constant flux — the popular term being "morphing."
