Self-parody

The Corrections column in the New York Times is frequently an unintentional humor column. Today's is a prime example:

Because of an editing error, a front—page article yesterday about the final Sunday of campaigning before the presidential election misstated the party affiliation of people who said that President Bush's job approval rating, and the number of Americans who believe the nation was heading in the right direction, were dangerously low for an incumbent. They were Democrats.

If anyone can supply me an example of a New York Times correction which does involves an "editing mistake" which made Democrats, not Republicans, look bad, I would cherish it for its scarcity value.

The New York Times has become a parody of itself. Never in my memory has a media icon so thoroughly demolished its once—high reputation.
