Politicized Girl Scouts
The national organization of the Girl Scouts was long—ago captured by left—wingers. Girl Scouts can work with Planned Parenthood for credit toward official awards, for example, and the organization has no policies whatsoever regarding lesbianism, not prohibiting lesbian leaders or members.
But the latest flap involving political correctness has taken the Girl Scouts national organization to a new low of political correctness, verging on, if not extending into anti—Semitism. A troop of 11—13 year Girl Scouts in Scarsdale, New York, wanted to march in an Israel Day parade in New York City, but
were warned by the national Girl Scouts against marching in uniform at the annual Israel Day Parade because it would be "insensitive to Arab Scouts..."
At the last minute, the national organization relented, and the girls were able to march, demonstrating their ethnic and religious pride.
What makes the incident sound like anti—Semitism is the fact that the national organization actually encourages other ethnic groups to march in other parades as a gesture of ethnic solidarity. Whenever a single ethnic group is treated different from all of the others, the specter of bias is raised.
Readers are urged to note that the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts are completely separate organizations, despite the common use of the word 'Scout.'
