No peace in sight in the Middle East
Greg Richards writes us about Olivier Guitta's latest article:
A good column as far as it goes. But I am bemused that the "search for peace" seems to be seen as an intellectual exercise like the search for the neutron, for example. If we can just find a brilliant enough scientist, then we can discover the right answer.
You cannot have peace so long as one side is at war. That is what happened in the Civil War in the U.S. There was no peace until there was victory.
It is not possible to have that type of victory in the Israeli—Palestinian War. So what to do? Wait! The Israelis build the wall and stop talking.
Talk is actually an incitement because it holds out the possibility to the Palestinians that if they can find the right atrocity, then the talk can go their way. The only way to deal with this is to have no talks at all — for Israel to say that the current generation has been contaminated by Arafat's propaganda and that no talks are possible for 1 — 2 generations.
If there is some venue in which talks are held, then the theater would be for Israel to close that facility. Turn out the lights. Drive away. Turn it into a clothing store.
And wait.
