MoveOn.org advocates law-breaking
According to Byron York of NRO's The Corner, MoveOn.org is buying TV ads in the same markets where Swift Boat Vets ads, questioning Kerry's veracity on Vietnam, appeared. The Democrats famously attempted to intimidate television stations into killing the Swifties' ad, by claiming they were untrue, and would subject the television stations to legal liability. Only one station caved, and the attempt simply drew more attention to the ads,
But according to the script of the MoveOn.org ad posted by York, the television stations might want to think twice before airing it. The final line appears to be urging President Bush to violate the law:
CUT TO SHOT OF BUSH AND CLOSING DISCLAIMER COPY. ANNOUNCER: George Bush: Take that ad off the air. MoveOn PAC is responsible for the content of this advertisement.
McCain—Feingold made it illegal to coordinate 527 organizations with Presidential campaigns. MoveOn.org, which must be familiar with these regulations, is urging the nation's chief executive to wantonly violate the law.
Don't conspiracy statutes make it illegal to encourage others to break the law for your own benefit?
