MoveOn as a cult

By

MoveOn.org is beginning to take on the characteristics of a cult.

In an email to subscribers [see below], the wealthy MoveOn pooh bahs gently tell their volunteers to take a day or two off work —— just like that —— to help others vote. Travel to a strange location.  And oh, don't forget your car, your cell phone, your lap top——we need these items for the cause also.

But  most of all we need you to join with others just like you to convince still yet others of our beliefs.  We will then take back the presidency.

At least now that MoveOn has so effectively made use of the internet its followers aren't selling flowers in the airport.  Or chanting too loudly. Yet.

Cult detoxers anyone?

Dear MoveOn member,

When your grandchildren ask where you were for the election of 2004, answer proudly —— the front lines! This historic election will be won or lost in the last 72 hours, in a few battleground neighborhoods. If you can spend a few days on the road, please come join us as we get out the vote in these critical areas. It's fun work —— MoveOn members tend to hit it off —— and it could make all the difference on November 2nd.

Can you travel to a battleground state for the final 72 hours of this campaign, or the final weekend, or even just November 2nd? We'll make it easy for you to effectively connect with our work on the ground.

Over the past weeks, thousands of volunteers have hit the streets in our target precincts, knocking on doors and working to identify the more than 600,000 voters we'll be mobilizing on Election Day to take back the presidency. We need your help in the final days to remind each of them to vote and ensure they make it to the polls. Studies show that a reminder in the last days has an enormous impact, increasing by at least 12% the number of our target voters who will actually vote.

If at all possible, please come from Saturday, October 30th through Tuesday, November 2nd. By taking Monday and Tuesday off work, you'll make an incredible contribution. Even if you can't come for all four days, you can come for just Saturday and Sunday, or just for Election Day itself.

The states where we need your help are Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington, and Wisconsin. If you have friends in one of the battleground state, you could ask to stay with them. If possible, consider driving to a battleground state. Having a car will be useful for driving people to the polls. If you have a laptop or cell phone, you should bring those, too.

If you want to arrange carpools or donated housing directly with other MoveOn members, we'll provide you with links to websites where you can offer or seek housing or rides. We're right where we need to be to pull this off, but we can't do it without your help. Please sign up now to travel to a battleground state, at:

It is often said that the thing we regret most are the chances we didn't take. Don't miss this last best chance to change our nation's future.

Thank you, for all you do.

Sincerely,

——Adam, Eli, Hannah, James, Laura, and the whole MoveOn PAC Team
