Arnold Schwarzenegger is encouraging the discussion of a Constitutional Amendment to permit naturalized citizens to be President. It is obvious why he is doing so. I heartily support the governor, and greatly admire his political skills. But I wish he would stop.

I am against playing with the Founders' design of our government. If there were a shortage of capable native born Americans able to be President, I would change my position. But there is simply no reason at all to change the Constitution. It is quite enough that Arnold's children are all capable of running for President, and not in the leats unlikely that some of them eventually will.

I really like the fact that Governor Schwarzenegger has no possible political ambitions beyond the governorship. I like it a lot. That will encourage him to finish the enormous job at which he has made such a credible start.
